Drought Resilience

Drought resilience is increasingly important for BC agriculture as changing climate conditions place greater pressure on water availability for farms and rural communities. Building drought resilience helps producers adapt to prolonged dry periods by improving water storage, irrigation efficiency, and overall water management practices. Investments in agricultural water infrastructure support reliable crop production, reduce risks to farm operations, and help safeguard local food systems during times of water scarcity. Strengthening drought resilience also contributes to healthier watersheds and more sustainable use of BC’s shared water resources for future generations.

Rebuilding the Beaver Lake Dam

Reliable water infrastructure is critical to the future of agriculture in British Columbia.

This video highlights the rebuilding of the Beaver Lake Dam in Lake Country, BC, and the important role the reservoir plays in supporting irrigation, wildfire response, and long-term water security for the community.

With support through the Agricultural Water Infrastructure Program, the project is helping strengthen climate resilience and increase water storage capacity for future generations of farming in the region.

Working Together to Create Change

This video highlights how producers in the North Thompson region came together to form the Noble Creek Irrigation Society after losing access to their previous irrigation service. With support through the Agricultural Water Infrastructure Program, the society developed a new intake and distribution system that helps provide reliable irrigation water to approximately 1,000 acres of farmland.

The project is helping strengthen long-term water security, support agricultural expansion, and improve resilience for producers in the region.

with Jealous Fruits

Long-term investments in agriculture help strengthen food security and climate resilience across British Columbia.

This video highlights how Jealous Fruits is investing in long-term orchard resilience through infrastructure improvements, strategic planning, and ongoing agricultural innovation in the Okanagan.

Through forward-looking investments in farming systems and production capacity, the project is helping strengthen the long-term sustainability and resilience of BC agriculture.
